Configuring Classifiers

You can create and edit classifiers for existing classification rules. You can also configure classifiers when you create a classification rule.

Configure classifiers for a rule from within the rule. You cannot move or reuse classifiers from one rule to another.

  1. To configure classifiers for an existing classification rule, on the Custom Classifications view, click the rule whose classifiers you want to work with.
This displays the details of the classification rule and all classifiers associated with the rule.
  2. To create a new classifier, click Add Classifier.
To edit one of the existing classifiers, click Edit for the classifier that you want to change.
  3. In the New Classifier or Manage Classifier dialog box, configure the following properties:
    Classifier Property Description
Match With Determines how the classifier matches and classifies data:
    • Field Name - Matches based on field names.
    • Field Path - Matches based on field paths.
    • Field Value - Matches based on field values.

To increase the chance of accurate classification, use multiple classifiers that match in different ways. For example, matching on field values can enable classifying sensitive data even after field names or field paths change. For more information, see Understanding Classifiers.

Patterns Java or RE2/J regular expression to specify the set of field names, field paths, or field values to classify. RE2/J is recommended due to better performance.

To add additional patterns, click Add Another.

For more information about the RE2/J expression language, see the RE2 documentation. For more information about Java regular expressions, see the Oracle documentation.

Case Sensitive Indicates whether the classifier performs case-sensitive matches.
  4. To save the classifier, click Save.
